This book is a foundational understanding of Gender Informed Counseling. In no way have we attempted to include all the research done in sex and gender. The premise of this form of counseling focus is simple: gender is a social construct and as such is defined by society. This construct has evolved since the existence of humanity. The current focus on this topic in society is based on Western concepts and myths that affect the individual and how we relate to them and are not based on facts or science. We will attempt to provide you with not only the resources to work with your clients/patients in the areas of gender but also to provide you with a summary of the vast amount of historical, societal, political, and clinical data available.
